Service Learning

Faith in Action (Rising 9 Grade)

Have you ever thought to put your faith in action? This summer our newest Monarchs can team up with our AMHS Campus Ministry faculty in one of two available sessions to meet classmates and find meaning and purpose in their life by contributing to something bigger than themselves. Supported by one-on-one faculty mentoring, students will meet with classmates to engage in a variety of learning activities and to learn about the needs of people living in our local community. The group will travel to several local non-profit agencies and work to support those most in need. Students who attend a full session (either Session 1 OR Session 2) will fulfill all AMHS Service Learning Hours required for freshman year.

English

Introduction to College-Preparatory English (Rising 9 Grade)

Introduction to College Preparatory English is anenrichment class intended to benefit students registered in English 1 (not English 1 Accelerated) seeking to improve reading and writing skills in preparation for high school English. Under the direction of AMHS English Department Faculty, students receive daily close readings, reading quizzes, class discussions, group activities, and short-writing assignments emphasizing the literary elements and issues within the required Summer Reading novel. It is not necessary to read the book in advance of the class, as time for reading will also be integrated into the course itself. The Summer Program provides the necessary novel for all students enrolled in this class. Additionally, writing strategies such as short paragraph writing will be used to aid students with understanding the organization and development strategies useful for high school writing assignments.

Math

Introduction to Algebra I (Rising 9th Grade)

Introduction to Algebra I is intended to benefit students registered in Algebra I seeking to improve math skills in preparation for high school. Students receive daily math lessons, quizzes, group activities, and assignments emphasizing time management and organizational skills. This class provides an opportunity for students to review Algebra I content and skills over the summer in order to be fully prepared for the fall semester.  

Life Skills

Monarch Prep (Rising 9th Grade)

Do you have interest in ensuring the transition from Middle School to High School goes smoothly? Our newest Monarchs are invited to join the AMHS Counseling Faculty this summer for a distinctive class geared to support students in learning more about our campus community, meeting peers, and engaging in activities, discussions, and other experiences to help them to become empowered Monarchs. The goal of this class is to boost student confidence by addressing the academic, communication, social and personal skills that benefit students so students are comfortable and ready to launch into high school.

Student-Athlete Prep (Rising 9th Grade)

Our newest Monarchs are invited to join the AMHS Faculty this summer for a specialized class geared to support student-athletes transitioning to high school sports. The program offers a unique opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, understand the value of teamwork, and prepare for the challenges of balancing high school academics and athletics at Archbishop Mitty. Enroll and forge new connections with fellow AMHS student-athletes!

Performing Arts

Musical Theatre (Rising 9th Grade)

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR, adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture. Come work with AMHS Performing Arts faculty and perform in a Broadway-style musical in only two weeks of rehearsal. The fun begins Monday, June 16th and ends with an hour-long performance on Wednesday, July 2nd at 11:00 AM in the Kinkade Center for the Arts.  Camp is directed by Doug Santana, Director of Performing Arts.

Science and Medicine

Advanced Science Research (Rising 9th Grade)

Advanced Science Research is a course specially designed to introduce our newest Monarchs to the science-based technology tools available at Archbishop Mitty High School. In this hands-on summer camp, students will explore cutting-edge laboratory techniques used in genetics, microbiology, and bioengineering while using digital tools to collect and analyze scientific data. Through engaging experiments and interactive activities, participants will gain experience with real-world biotech applications and problem-solving in the lab. Come preview the lab science experience at Archbishop Mitty and meet other science-minded Monarchs!

Sports Medicine and Athletic Training (Rising 10-12 Grade)

Have you ever considered a career in medicine? In one-week class, students receive hands-on instruction from our AMHS Sports Medicine staff on preventive taping, wound care techniques, emergency care and prevention, and more. Registered students are required to rehearse and demonstrate preventive taping, wound care, and splinting procedures for First Aid and AED certification, and to complete all training modules, assessments, and exercises in order to be fully certified for CPR.
