Technology Acceptable Use Policy

The policies, procedures and information within this document apply to all technology used at Archbishop Mitty High School (AMHS). Teachers may set additional parameters for use in their respective classroom.

By adhering to this policy, all members of AMHS contribute to a positive and productive educational community. It helps protect the integrity of our digital resources, safeguards personal information, and fosters an atmosphere of mutual respect and responsibility. The policy is not only a guideline but also a commitment to uphold the values of AMHS in the digital realm.  This Technology Acceptable Use Policy applies to Archbishop Mitty students at all times, whether or not the students are on campus, as Archbishop Mitty students are school representatives at all times.

Good Judgment

At AMHS, always strive to represent yourself well online. Avoid accessing or sharing content that could offend or threaten others. Remember that anything you send via email, text, or post online can be saved, forwarded, and remain on the Internet beyond your control. Use good judgment to avoid embarrassing yourself or others. If you or a friend receives any inappropriate or uncomfortable communication, talk to a trusted adult. Be aware that all AMHS technology resources are school property, and the school can access all messages or documents composed, sent, or received on these systems.

Ethical Use

Always cite and properly document all sources, including images, audio, and video files, used for school assignments. Respect Federal copyright laws and avoid illegal installation or transmission of copyrighted materials. Use your own words and represent your own views in any form of electronic communication. Send emails using your own account and never impersonate another student.

General Expectations

  1. All AMHS students receive an iPad at the start of their time with us. These iPads belong to AMHS, and students must use them according to the school's Acceptable Use Policy. If an iPad is broken or not working properly, it must be brought promptly to the IT Department for evaluation and repair. Students must notify the AMHS IT Department if the iPad is lost or stolen for further instructions. Please refer to the AMHS iPad AppleCare program on the AMHS website for details.
  2. Students must have their fully charged iPad in a protective case and headphones with them at school every day.
  3. Students are responsible for safeguarding their personal information and AMHS assigned equipment:
    1. Students may not remove or circumvent the management system or internet filters on their iPad.
    2. Students must never share their login/password to their iPad or any online service.
    3. iPads must never be left in an unlocked locker, unlocked car, or any unsupervised area.
    4. Students may not remove or alter the asset tag located on their iPad’s back cover.
    5. Students are strongly encouraged to enable the Find My function. The AMHS IT Department can also locate iPads.
    6. Students may not use other student iPads nor have them in their possession.
    7. Students may store their own personal media on their iPads.
  4. During the school day, 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM, headphones may only be used in the library and the Sobrato Student Life Center. Permission may be given for use of headphones by a faculty or staff member. Sound must be muted at all times unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes. Students are only allowed to add apps on their iPads that are available from Self Service. Games are not allowed on the iPads, unless directed for educational purposes by a teacher.

  5. Students are not allowed to record lessons or classroom activities without the permission of the classroom teacher.
  6. Computing devices, including smartphones, other than the school-issued iPads are not to be used on the AMHS network or in class sessions without the permission of the teacher.
  7. Individual school iPads and accessories must be returned to the AMHS IT Department at the request of the school or when a student ceases to be a registered student at AMHS.

Legal Issues

In consideration for receiving the iPad from Archbishop Mitty, each student and his or her parent or legal guardian agrees not to sue and hereby releases, waives, discharges, holds harmless, indemnifies, and defends Archbishop Mitty High School and the Catholic Diocese of San José, as well as their respective employees, personnel, staff, volunteers, agents, directors, affiliates, and representatives, from any and all liability, losses, damages, claims, actions, and causes of action of every nature for any and all known or unknown, foreseen or unforeseen, bodily or personal injuries, property damage, or other loss, whether claimed by the student, parent, legal representative, or any third party, relating in any way to the use of the iPad furnished by Archbishop Mitty to the student..
