FAQ

1. Do I need a physical exam to play sports?
Yes, you need to have a physical form on file in the Department of Athletics before you can try out for a sport. Physical forms are available in the Department of Athletics.

2. I don't know where to put all my athletic stuff during the day. What should I do?
Contact our Equipment Manager, Mr. Scott Williams. His office is located in Room 702, directly across from the baseball right field fence. He can assign you a locker for your after-school equipment.

3. Can I still play with my club team during the Mitty school year?
Yes you can, but there are some restrictions placed on all high school athletes by the California Interscholastic Federation. First, you may not play on a club team in a particular sport during that sports high school season. (For example, you cannot play club soccer once the high school soccer season starts.)

4. When do the sports seasons start?
TBA, pending final approval from the West Catholic Athletic League and the Central Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation. Please contact the Athletic Department if you have questions about specific sports. All Fall start dates will be sent out to families via the Principal’s newsletter and posted on the school website by June.

5. Are their "cuts" for teams at Mitty?
Most teams at Archbishop Mitty conduct tryouts for the purpose of selecting the members of athletic teams. At the conclusion of the tryouts, there are often athletes that cannot be offered a spot on a particular team. Cutting athletes on a particular team is difficult for coaches, families, and athletes. Parents and athletes are encouraged to talk with coaches about the tryout process for a particular sport.

6. How big is the Archbishop Mitty Athletic Department?
Archbishop Mitty offers competition in 26 different sports with 66 different teams with a total of 122 coaches.

7. Are athletes encouraged to play more than one sport?
The Department of Athletics encourages all athletes to be as involved as their schedule allows, and, yes, we encourage athletes to play on as many Mitty teams as they can. Our coaches are willing to meet with athletes that are interested in playing two or three sports and help an athlete plan his/her time effectively so that he/she can maximize his/her high school athletic experience. You can only play one sport per season (Fall, Winter, and Spring).

8. What does it cost to play on a team?
Archbishop Mitty's athletic teams are funded by the school, but there are items necessary in each sport that the athletes must purchase on their own.

Generally speaking, if Archbishop Mitty wants the equipment back for future use, we will purchase the items. Examples of such would be most uniforms, football equipment, and some team warm up suits. If Archbishop Mitty does not want the equipment back, the athletes will generally purchase the equipment. Examples would include baseball hats, swimsuits, socks, shoes, and practice shirts. On the average, a team member will spend between $150-$250 for a "Sport Pack" that includes the items the athlete must purchase.
