Placement Exams for the Archbishop Mitty Class of 2029
Who Should Take Placement Exams?
Placement exams are part of a comprehensive placement program that allows Archbishop Mitty High School to place each student in the most appropriate level of course work. Many incoming freshmen will take placement exams; specifically, the following students must take placement exams:
- Math Placement Test: All students who have taken Algebra I, Geometry, Math I, or Math II should take the Math Placement Exam. Students who are currently enrolled in Algebra II or higher level math courses do not need to take the exam. The math department chair will make your placement. [Please note: the placement test you take is based on the math class you are currently enrolled in at school. More information will be sent to students who have completed additional UC approved, accredited math courses at other insitutions.] Here are answers to Frequently Asked questions regarding math placement.
- World Language Test: All students who have studied Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, or American Sign Language should take the World Languages placement exam.
- Science Placement Test: All students with a strong background in science and a love of the subject should take the science placement exam for placement in Biology Honors. Students enrolled in Biology Honors should be concurrently enrolled in Geometry Honors or higher level math course and therefore also need to take the Math Placement Test.
- English I Accelerated: Students are placed in English I or English I Accelerated by the English Department. The department bases its placement on junior high grades, teacher recommendations, and standardized testing. There is no placement test for English I Accelerated.
