2016-2017 Financial Aid Applications were DUE WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2016!
The Financial Aid Application for the 2016-2017 school year is now available on mitty.com and were due with the required documents last Wednesday.
All families requesting financial aid will be directed to the school's website to create an account with PSAS, the outside service the Diocese of San Jose retains to collect and evaluate levels of financial need. If you are new to the program, you will be asked to provide an email address and a password. For families that filed for financial aid last year, you can access your account as a returning applicant by using your login information. Once you have created an account, you can login when convenient; fill out the application, update, change and save information; track your progress; and communicate directly with helpful and knowledgeable staff members at PSAS. For returning applicants, your previous information has been saved for easy reference. The application is easy to navigate, the instructions are clear, it's available in English and Spanish, and only one application per family is required. This process has been mainstreamed to provide a faster, simpler, friendlier service to our families.
To ensure full consideration for financial aid, all applications were to be submitted to PSAS by February 3, 2016. Late applications will only be considered if additional funds become available. |

Donations, both items and underwriting, are now being accepted for the auction. In addition to attendance, be a part of this great evening through all levels of participation. Parent volunteers are hard at work planning the event. The next General Planning Meeting is this Thursday, February 11, 2016, in the Monarch Room at 7:00 p.m. If you want to learn more about The Mitty Auction and how you can help, please plan to attend or contact Sarah Janigian, Director of Special Events, at (408) 342-4224 or via email at sjanigian@mitty.com
All are welcome. |

Book Drive February 1st-9th
Campus Ministry is teaming up with St. Vincent de Paul to host a book drive for Books 4 Hope. Students should bring in new or gently used books to the drop off bins in the library. All types of books are needed - textbooks included! Thank you in advance for your support of this cause! |

What Are We Doing for Lent?
During the Lenten Season, Campus Ministry will help our community deepen its faith through Lent - a time of prayer, fasting, and alms giving.
Ash Wednesday Mass
We will have Mass at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10th, in the Fien Gymnasium to mark the beginning of Lent. All students are invited.
Ash Wednesday Prayer & Reconciliation Services
All religion classes will go to the chapel either on Wednesday or Thursday, February 10th or 11th, to participate in a Lenten prayer & reconciliation service.
Weekly Mass
As we do all school year, we have mass in the chapel on Monday afternoon at 2:45 p.m.
Contemplative Prayer in Chapel
During Lent, we are inviting faculty, staff, and students to join together for Contemplative Prayer in the chapel on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 - 7:40 a.m. and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:45 - 2:55 p.m. It is a great way to simply sit in silence and center one's self to slow down during Lent.
Solidarity Dinner
Created by students, the Solidarity Dinner is a special gathering to allow students to express solidarity with the numerous people they encounter on their immersion trips and during their service experiences. Students will share a simple rice and beans meal as a reminder of the simple lifestyle shared by many around the world. The dinner will be held in Aymar on Thursday, March 10th, at 6:00 p.m. This is a student event.
Operation Rice Bowl
As our Catholic faith calls us to reach out in solidarity to our sisters and brothers in need, this Lenten season the Archbishop Mitty community once again will participate in Operation Rice Bowl, a program of Catholic Relief Services. Through Operation Rice Bowl, we can make a difference in our world by praying with our families and faith communities; fasting in solidarity
with those who hunger; learning more about the challenges of poverty abroad; and giving sacrificial contributions to support those in need. Calendars and individual rice bowls to collect donations are available in Campus Ministry and will be handed out in classes. We encourage all students to participate. If you'd like to join us in participating in Operation Rice Bowl, you can download the CRS Rice Bowl App. The App will allow you to set daily goals, provide thematic prayers, and learn about stories of hope through CRS successes around the world. |

Counseling
Juniors
This semester, counselors will be meeting with juniors and their parent(s) to review the college planning process, SAT/ACT test plan, and course placement for next year. These appointments will take place during one of the student's free periods or after school. The easiest way to schedule an appointment is to contact Mrs. Nina Duquette (nduquette@mitty.com).
Before the meeting, the student should complete the following items:
• College Planning Questionnaire Class of 2017
• Updated Resume If you have specific questions, please contact your counselor.
Parents
The counseling department is happy to announce our new Parent Resource page available at http://www.mitty.com/counseling/parent-resources. This page has links to books, websites, and articles related to a wide variety of topics which include anxiety, behavior issues, depression, learning differences, mental and developmental health, parenting, social-cognition, friendship, and sleep. While these are helpful resources, we encourage parents and students alike to contact counselors with any concerns.
Seniors
Now that applications are winding down, please note the following:
• Mid-Year Reports (7th semester grades) were sent to your Common App colleges on or before January 29th.
• CSUs and UCs communicate strictly through email. You should check your email regularly and complete any outstanding to-do items. Please also create your CSU Portal to check your application status for individual campuses.
• As you hear back from colleges, update your application status on Family Connection
and notify your counselor. |

Athletics Report
WCAL Season Enters Home Stretch for Men's and Women's Soccer
With only three league matches left on the 2015-2016 WCAL fixture list, both our varsity teams are in the thick of their respective championship races.
The men's team sits in a three-way tie with St. Francis and Bellarmine after 11 league matches, with each team on 17 points. The Monarchs pulled level with the Lancers and Bells on the strength of a 3-1 home win over Serra on Saturday. A pair of juniors accounted for the goals, with captain Makenna Pendleton scoring a brace on assists from sophomore Jake Serpa and junior Devyn Gomez. Junior David Campbell adding a late tap-in to seal the victory.
Meanwhile, the women's team posted another pair of shutouts last week over Presentation and Notre Dame-Belmont to remain one match back in second place with a game in hand behind St. Francis. Paris Fox steered in fellow sophomore Sophia Mendoza's pass from junior Kylie Rego's corner kick to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead at halftime over the Panthers. Mendoza played provider again in the 74th minute as she sprung sophomore Hailey Smith free for a well-taken insurance goal. The team followed that win up with a convincing 3-0-weekend result in Belmont over the Tigers. Smith, Rego, and Mendoza all tallied for the Monarchs.
Both teams will face big matches this week that will go a long way in determining their respective league winners. On Wednesday, it's a pair of 3:15 p.m. starts versus St. Francis, with the women's team playing host to the Lancers at John Mise Park, while the men's team are away. Saturday sees both squads reversing venues as they take on Sacred Heart Cathedral. The men's team celebrates Senior Day on Fr. Jack Russi Field at 10:00 a.m., while the women’s travel to San Francisco to face the Fighting Irish at the new Beach Chalet Soccer Complex in Golden Gate Park at 11:30 a.m. Best of luck to both our fine soccer programs this week! |
